Death By Chandelier is the first solo show by Melbourne artist/illustrator Stephen Baker. The work represents a collection of fine ink/pencil and sometimes collaged works created over the past year. Most of his work seems to draw back to a fascination for repetitious symbols and elements creating pattern fills that seem to grow randomly throughout the image.

Working from a small studio at his Nth Melbourne abode Stephen pieces together his creations using highly detailed ink and pencil work and is know to collage various pieces using hand picked vintage papers and magazines. A hoarder at heart, his studio provides a treasure trove of objects collected from markets around Melbourne and abroad. Decaying dolls and Japanese wind up figures, porcelain rabbits and iconic religious paraphernalia all seem creep into the landscape of his work. Lyrics from The Damned and The Cramps seem to pop into view as well, as he tends to slap anything he sees or hears around him on to the page during late night scrawling sessions. Best described as an incoherent rant in illustration form, Death By Chandelier runs for 3 weeks at The Trocadero Artspace Footscray.
