When it comes to music festivals, Australia is spoilt for choice thanks to the abundance of open fields and paddocks that grace our big brown slab. One such festival is the much loved ‘Splendour in the Grass’, held annually in the small coastal town of Byron Bay. This year’s massive influx of Splendour Benders seemed to test the outer limits of Byron’s capacity, with accommodation, buses and booze shops busting at the seams.

A solid line-up of bands including MGMT (100% improvement on their 2008 Meredith show),White Lies (hottie lead singer), Midnight Juggernauts (new stuff is brilliant), Bloc Party (they never fail), Doves (beautiful Brits), Friendly Fires (let’s all move to Paris) and The Flaming Lips (magic confetti beach balls) brought the people to their feet, blisters and mud a plenty. My personal highlight? The ingenious recycling program that gave a dollar drink token for each can brought to the recycling center. You should have seen the frenzied can-hunt that commenced around broke-o-clock!
