Is it a book? Is it a flower pot? No, it’s Honbachi, a green super-hero product released by eco-aware design company Tokyo Pistol. Honbachi literally translates to “book pot”and as the name suggests, Honbachi is a range of books remodeled as crazy cute flower pots. Books are sourced from all over the place, and are usually old and deteriorated volumes with a one way ticket to the trash can. Tokyo Pistol has come up with the perfect way to breathe new life into old hardcovers, all the while bringing the beauty of plants and flowers to a room near you.
With their sights set on old books that are past their ‘read-by’ date, Tokyo Pistol started to create Honbachi, first selecting books that have an antique mood about them. Customers can select their new “book pot” from the wide book selection range, which caters to different sizes, colors, thickness and genres including dictionaries, collected editions, history books and classic novels.
Honbachi is delivered in a box that comes with a kit including a pot, soil and a seasonal plant. As yet, Honbachi can only be shipped in Japan, due to icky quarantine rules, but it won’t be long till Honbachi finds it’s way to all corners of the globe. Yay!
