Whilst the rest of Berlin are eating ice-creams and hanging in parks, soaking in the final weeks of summer for the year, we here at Easy HQ have been inundated with friends and family and therefore repetitive and robotic trips to Check Point Charlie, The East Side Gallery and one of the “you know, BIG clubs,” etc.  Why are we telling you this? Well, because we ran out of time to attend something that would appeal to the MOOKS team, so here we are, writing about one of our favourite low-key past times – sitting on a bridge.

Not just any bridge, mind, Admiralbrucke in Kreuzberg. Jump off the U-Bahn at Kottbusser Tor and head South until you can’t move for the swarm of trend-heads drinking spätkauf (like a corner store) beers in the setting sun.  There are buskers and bikers, beggars and babes, and be sure to head across to Il Casolare for pizza if the hunger sets in.  Sonic Youth signed the wall in there. Nuff said.

There is a wonderful man who sells pappadums from a big bucket after about 8pm, you’ll know him by the sound of “Paaaaappaaa-DUM DUM DUM DUM! PAPPADUM!” Try before you buy and accept the shard of crispy delciousness he will undoubtedly shove in your face. If you eat it, he will yell at you until you buy one. Or two. Or three for two, as it is the best deal, economically. And they really are delicious.

Finally, the handy little system of bottle collection this city has down to a tee means that friendly locals come along and relieve you of your empties, so really, the only apparent nuisances of the glorious Admiralsbrucke are:
1)    Where to sit if you get there too late, and,
2)    Where to pee if you stay there too late.
