As if you need yet another reason to venture into the Brooklyn neighbourhood of Fort Greene. But if the leafy trees, beautiful brownstones, warm coffee houses and generally friendly vibe aren’t enough to tip the scales, Fort Greene Flea should do the trick. Held every Saturday (rain, hail or shine) from 10am-5pm at Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School, this monster market offers the wares of over 150 vendors. Here you can find almost everything – from the usual booty of vintage clothes, records and antiques, to lobster rolls and Asia dogs (kimchi-filled hot dogs).
On this particular Saturday outing, the following items may or may not have been spotted:
- A life-sized model horse
- A whole bunch of (creepy) antique dolls
- Cool lookin’ bikes being sold by a cool lookin’ dude
- Amazing pieces of jewellery that made us wish we had more than two arms/one neck/ten fingers
- Other assorted treats and treasures
Fort Greene Flea also has a sister market, the Brooklyn Bridge Flea that takes place every Sunday from 11am-6pm. So if you’re up for a good hunt, your weekend is pretty much set. And believe us, your efforts will most definitely pay off.
