Music purists around the world often unite on one basic premise: when it comes to sonic sustenance, vinyl just sounds better. Owner of Brooklyn’s Eat Records, Casey Block, has taken this concept and run with it to official ‘next level’ status. This gem of a spot, found amongst the pieroggi joints and bakeries of the Polish neighbourhood of Greenpoint, looks after your general sustenance levels via good sounds (vinyl only, of course), as well as good food.

Eat Records has got a little something for everybody; browsing through today’s selection uncovered a little Roy Ayers, Freddie Hubbard, The Police, George Harrison, Jimmy Cliff, Wu-Tang Clan and Tangerine Dreams for pretty reasonable prices of $4 and up. And we didn’t even get around to the rock section (which also happens to be Eat’s specialty area and the biggest selection of all the racks) of this record store/eatery, since our pear and apple cobbler topped with a little cream had us pretty well occupied.  Depending on who’s working when you go, they make a pretty mean coffee too, which means a lot when oftentimes you have to resort to the dreaded “Americano” for a hit of the good stuff.

As well as music preserved on vinyl, Eat looks after your live needs too – during summer, musicians perform in the little front seated area to a small (due to size) but appreciative crowd. And for all these reasons, Eat Records, we salute you.
