NANOOK has launched his first solo exhibition entitled “POP WAR NOW!” at  Kinkan gallery in Meguro, Tokyo this month.

NANOOK is one of the 12 artists whose work was selected for visuals of SHIFT 2010 Calendar competition. With his pop and good sense of humor, his creation is based on his motto of “STAY KIDS”, with an innocent and mischievous viewpoint.

Entitled “POP WAR NOW!” which means pop and peaceful war, such as play as soldiers in their childhood. His exhibition showcases about 50 pieces of his latest works from 2007 to 2009. Viewing his works drawn with ink and watercolor, visitors catch his sense of humor through his unique collage and printed works, which often make people burst into laughter. In addition, he shows his cartoons and drawings made in his childhood, and his favorite books, magazines, records, which creates a better image of who NANOOK is and how his works are created.

At the opening reception, the gallery was full of people and it made a great success. As an special event for the opening, NANOOK had his first live painting, painting a huge monster saying “POP WAR?” with listening to his favorite and comfortable music.
