To succeed in life, is to achieve your dreams; and this is exactly what Fleur Murphy has done.
Rain for Morgan is a short feature film that has taken a sparkle to the eyes of any beholder. Its set in rustic South Yabba in rural Victoria. The film is a Brilliant piece, boasting stunning mythical overtones.
Rain for Morgan is loosely based on the Celtic legend of “Johnny Croy and the Mermaid”. It’s set in a post-war world of “must marriages” and “men for the money.” The protagonist is Morgan (Fleur Murphy), a striking young lady, who has fallen in love with her beau, Johnny (Geordie Taylor). Together, they’re forced to live in the dying landscapes of rural Australia.
The story is a wonderful maze of metaphors, twists and eventually redemption. As the legend goes, mermaids bring good luck, but in the film Morgan is stuck in drought- stricken rural Australia with only her terminally ill husband, his sister and a nearby neighbour to confide in.
Fleur Murphy is no stranger to the screen and stage. A veteran with over 15 years experience, it was only a matter of time before her own projects came to fruition. Aided by the addition of Chris Saxon to the young and dynamic cast, her performances set an unfairly high benchmark for Australian acting. “Rain for Morgan” has been brought to life with an exceptional crew. Cinematographer David Williams and Director of Photography Chris Tomkins have created a sort-of stagnant beauty, capturing every trace of life in this film. Thomas Rouch’s haunting soundtrack expertly offsets Marissa Brown’s ability to pry gutsy and mesmerising performances from her talented cast.
Mid-production, Fleur Murphy overcame her fear of open water. In a pivotal scene, Morgan dreams of being released and set free into the ocean, but through Fleur’s fears, they received some astonishing underwater photography and shots which are so unique to the project.
Fleur Murphy has only inspiration to offer. The humbling young lady had a dream- she wrote a script, then co-produced and starred in her own short film. She didn’t sit back and wait for the opportunity, she went and grabbed it with both hands! ASTONISHING!
