Forward thinking individuals have descended upon this fine city for the fourth-annual Melbourne jazz Festival.

Running from the first to the eighth of May, the festival crams as much dissonance, chin-stroking and socially awkward behavior into seven days as is humanly possible.

Taking place at a multitude of venues around the city, the festival encompasses anything that loosely falls under the jazz umbrella. From the outer-worldly piano interplay of Chris Abrahams, to the sublime compositions of Mulatu Astatke, to the Australian Art Orchestra’s glorious interpretations of seminal Miles davis pieces, to the cerebral masterstrokes of Tortoise, this years line up stretches the parameters of conventional jazz.

Never in Australia’s history have so many influential jazz musicians been assembled en-masse for your viewing and listening pleasure.

If you are even remotely interested in engaging the other side of your brain, make your way to at least one of these events.
