PETER BRÖTZMANN is an artist, composer, graphic designer, musician and all round Renaissance man.

Renowned for his prolific and staggeringly high-quality output, Brotzmann brings his multi-faceted talents to The Narrows gallery Melbourne this month.

Having spent most of his career outside the commercial art world, Brotzmann has amassed a significant body of work in the last four decades. Initially, his artistic endeavors were a means of accompanying his dense and colourful musical offerings. Brotzmann’s improvisational free-jazz explosions continue to create shock waves within the avant-garde music community.

The German’s multi-medium artistic pursuits are the stuff of legend within artistic circles. Beautifully simple typography, fluid sketches and the enviable ability to make even the simplest of pieces compelling, Brotzmann has an innate artistic vision that will make lesser mortals want to fold up the easel, pour their paints down the sink and throw their brushes in the bin.

PETER BRÖTZMANN- Graphic Work (1968-2010) runs form fifth of May, until the twenty ninth of May.

In addition to exhibiting his works, Brotzmann is performing as part of the Melbourne Jazz Festival.
