There’s nothing that will reduce you to a blubbering mess faster than kids singing their little hearts out. And not only just singing earnestly, completely absorbed by the song, but also singing in tune. And with harmonies. New York’s Staten Island PS22 Chorus, comprised of over 50 ten year-old kids who attend the elementary school, has already made Tori Amos, Beyonce, Phoenix, and many more artists well up with their covers of popular songs.
Don’t believe us?
PS22 Chorus covers Beach House – “Zebra”
Started ten years ago by music teacher and chorus master Gregg Breinberg, the PS22 Choir has become a viral sensation thanks to their talent and documentation of it via YouTube. Celebrities such as Ashton Kucher and Perez Hilton frequently tweet/blog about PS22’s pure and beautiful reimaginations of songs by artists including Passion Pit (who they have performed with), Jay-Z and Alicia Keys (who tweeted after PS22 Chorus covered “Empire State Of Mind”), Lady Gaga, Fleetwood Mac, Queen Latifah (PS22 performed with her recently, as well as Common), Marina And The Diamonds, and many more.
PS22 Chorus covers Talking Heads – “This Must Be The Place (Naïve Melody)”
As a testament to how outstanding they are, the PS22 Chorus won the very first Tribeca Disruptive Innovation Award this year’s Tribeca Film Festival. The awards were given to recipients who have found innovative and affordable ways of using technology to make a difference. “We want to use the forum that is chorus to get kids to discover themselves and feel good about themselves,” Breinberg said earlier in an interview with LA Music Blog.

I got goose bump with ‘Listzsomania’. Phoenix should tour the world with these kids.
