If you have ever wondered what the next era to hit vouge is, then stop wondering!
On Monday night I took a trip on the mean rockabilly sides of Melbourne and ended up on AC/DC lane at Cherry bar.
Here, I met the ultimates of a great time, whilst filming for their up and coming music video, I got the chance to chat to this interesting 5 piece mix of local Melbourne talent.
The Working Horse Irons have been hitting the Melbourne underground scene and festival circuit for just over a year with their cosmic Psychobilly/Rockabilliy/Rock ‘n’ Roll. They are mostly recognised as the band that sounds like Johnny Cash on speed.
The band is made up of Andy Vegas on Double Bass, Stu on Drums, Rhino on vocals, Scotty and Slick Nick both rock out on the Guitars. As a group, they have been in full support of S.L.A.M. (Save Live Australian Music) which made huge movement in February with the protest rally storming down Swanston street with a remake of ACDC’s “It’s a long way to the top if you wanna Rock’n’ Roll” which was supported by iconic Melbourne bands and figures like Spider Bait and the legendary Michael Gudinski. They were all protesting a clear message- live music gives life, happiness and the best memories.
Asking the band their thoughts on what they find most important about S.L.A.M, they answered beautifully that they want to give anyone a great time violence free. Dance, have fun and be friendly. Another comment was how important it is that the music community of Melbourne has come together to make one big voice heard to keep live music strong and fruitful.
The Working Horse Irons take you back to what men looked like in the fifties, but with a contemporary edge. You would even say they make tattoo sleeves look good.
The” Irons” have recently just recorded a self titled e.p which is definitely worth a listen if you like getting up and having a rager of a time. Their catchy 50’s inspired tunes with influences ranging from Stray Cats, Fire Ball, Elvis and Johnny Cash are definitely fun for the ears. You can catch the band live on the 21st of May at a new up and coming venue in Northcote Called the “Prague”. This night promises an evening full of extremely exciting Local talent and even some burlesque acts between sets to get you in the mood to rock a house down. So get your best fifties gear on and get those tattoos out. Be back in Vouge and whip it down to the Prague!!!
Thanks
Yours Radically
