Sunshine Studio in Harajuku Tokyo is celebrating its third anniversary! With an aim to develop the creative industry in Tokyo, Sunshine Studio was launched as a café/gallery space in June 2007, with their logo and interior designed by Geoff McFetridge. To celebrate the anniversary, they presented the third anniversary exhibition “Birthday.Birthday.Birthday.” and invited three artists to display their works.
Based on the concept “Birthday”, Yuko Kanatani showcased colorful half 3D paintings, while Hidehito Shinno showed humorous illustrations, one of them inspired by cafe staff! His works fit well in the space. Kentaro Tomozawa is the kind of an artist who is always loved by guests. One of his unique works is a semi-3D bouquet piece. I felt a bit cynicism behind his 3D pieces.
Besides the artworks showcased in the space, the café offered coloring pieces of papers for visitors. Another event they offered for a limited time was discount service using Twitter.
