So, aside from being a couple of rad Berlin correspondents for Mooks, we also dabble in a touch of Art Direction and Production – actually, that is predominantly what we do. Last Friday, we shot our third seasonal shoot for Mooks and we reckon it’s our best so far. Steve Ryan, our delightful photographer and all-round good guy, did a stunning job at capturing some beautiful shots for you all to feast your eyes on for the upcoming winter 2010 range.
Mmm… The task of writing about the festivities in Berlin this week, is indeed a difficult one. We have not been sure as to how to approach the twentieth anniversary of the fall of the wall in blog format, so here we go with an entirely too brief reflection on what it may mean. Twenty years ago last Monday, Berliner’s East and West took to the some 140 kilometer cement barrier with pick-axes and joyous liberation, and with every segment chipped away, so to chipped away at the presence of communism within Germany and indeed, greater Europe.
In the interest of maintaining a reasonable level of safety and equality in the sometimes treacherous conditions of the Berlin flea market or junk shop, we have observed and noted a code of conduct – a set of articles, if you will, to ensure a satisfactory bargain hunting discourse is maintained. Please note, these articles serve to promote the sport of treasure hunting, as opposed to finding ‘the’ vintage item of the century. We are talking novelty glass egg cups and incredible photos of people you have never met. Think stories, think nostalgia. And then think about getting both of those things for less than a fiver.
Berlin, situated in the Northern area of former-East Germany, is positively (b)rimming with creative excursions this week. Here are a couple of our picks to help any of you out there wash those winter willies (quite literally) away.
**STRONG (ALTHOUGH TASTEFULLY USED) LANGUAGE WARNING** It is with heavy, heavy heads that we have rolled out of our respective beds and are staring at this blog entry, hoping it will write itself. Stupid thing. Surely we have the technology for brain powered word processing by now. Anyway, It’s cold, wet, grey, miserable and all we want to do is watch an almost nauseating amount of torrented TV series. This general feeling of apathy can only mean one thing – hangover city. Population? Two. Who? Us. Why? Melbourne musos abroad, that’s why. |
