And Saturday night not only confirmed our suspicious, but cemented them. There he was, the headlining act, manning the merchandise stand for his relatively new imprint label Magical Properties, all dandy-clothed and armed with gracious smiles.

Only 20 minutes south from the concrete couture, assembly lines and hard nights, you’ll find the endless serenity of Kalk Bay. While many are quick to complain about Cape Town, I’m sure even some MOOKS Report readers have felt discontent towards it - you know – can’t really see yourself ‘living it up’ in a city filled with crime and punishment. But just like Dostoevsky’s classic novel, it’s a city with depth and intrigue that requires you read between the lines to fully understand. To look without judging and to venture off the beaten track where you’ll discover a different side to South Africa’s mother city.

Melbourne based filmmaker, artist and serial Tweeter, Joel Sabadin, is recovering from the glitz and glamour of the 2010 Tropfest short film competition, held in Sydney at the weekend. Joel attended the world’s biggest short film festival as a VIP guest, after his short film entitled ‘Frequency’, made it to the top three in the Telstra Mobile Masterpiece category.

Anyone who has studied or taken an interest in art, will understand what it’s like living in a house full of old paintings, sculptures, collage of crisp packets, collection of ‘found objects’ and not having a clue what to do with them. Too ghastly to put on display and downright insulting to give away as gifts, but then again these artworks were often slaved over and not to mention the money spent on creating them. Luckily UK artist Michael Landy, has come up with a solution in his latest project entitled: ‘Art Bin’. Landy is using a giant glass skip, that resides in the South London Gallery, to slowly fill with donated/rejected artworks.
